AroView: An enchanting and entrancing French animated feature that celebrates the healing power of the imagination with plenty of its own. It’s a tale of two sets of sisters – a bereaved fantasy writer and her muse, and two neighbourhood girls whose curiosity causes them to portal into one of her otherworldly fictions, the domain of the mythical Sirocco.
Studio Ghibli casts a long shadow over this genre, and fans of that studio won’t want to miss it, but its unmistakable French touch offers something sublime and surreal without the plot getting too spirited away. You’ll soon forgive the American dubbing as this remarkable vision sweeps you up in its wonderous design and startling colour palette. ★★★★
“Patient and kindhearted, a painted storybook in motion, Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds is a lovely glimpse of what animation can be.” ~Matt Zoller Seitz, RogerEbert.com
“A truly spectacular psychedelic excursion in the vein of head-trip classics Fantastic Planet and Yellow Submarine.” ~Peter Debruge, Variety
“The film’s many whimsies don’t detract from the resonant themes at the fable’s core, about the transformative qualities of grief and the indelible bond between sisters.” ~Maya Phillips, The New York Times
