The Triplets of Belleville
Aroview: Witty, inventive and lovingly designed with retro-chic flair, this ‘all-ages’ animated feature is distinctively and delightfully French.
Less to do with the “triplets” than a benign old lady who trains her lonely grandson to be a cycling champion - she finds him kidnapped while peddling the ‘Tour de France’, and so begins a quest to rescue him from the imposing metropolis of “Belleville”. Though the narrative might not ultimately achieve full flourish, its a visionary treasure brimming with ideas and quaint, nostalgic charm, typified by the original jazz musical score by Benoît Charest.
