AroView: Director Gus Van Sant made his career splash with this super-stylish and ultra-vivid portrait of a group of sympathetic, drug-addicted youths in early ‘70s Portland.
It might just be the sexiest film to be made about the subject, while not shying away from the grim realities contained in the autobiography of James Fogle, and was a serious shot in the arm for the career of Matt Dillon. Kelly Lynch, James Le Gros and a young Heather Graham are equally well cast, while old William Burroughs makes a special appearance as a defrocked junkie priest.
