The Others
AroView: Ghostly tale in the classic tradition of Henry James, conjuring a spectral fog of unease from a gaunt mansion on the island of Jersey in 1945, presided over by a morbidly religious Nicole Kidman.
Due to a rare medical condition her two children must not be exposed to sunlight, and thus the world of family and servants is shadowed by ever-drawn curtains and locked doors, out of which the children see (or imagine?) menacing ‘others’. Despite a slow start, Alejandro Amenábar’s (Open Your Eyes, The Sea Inside) impressive style eventually finds substance through a series of satisfying twists.
