The Isle

1h 30m Thriller, Horror, Cult 2000

AroView: An art-shocker with a distinctly Asian streak of the perverse, this counterpoints a striking visual tableaux and tranquil setting with the dark, murky waters of its sexual politics.

Finding sanctuary at a serene fishing motel, a murder suspect finds himself hooked on the services of the sultry manageress, who turns out to be a dark maiden with a screwed-up agenda all of her own. As its logic unreels, this is not quite the wet dream it might have been, but the squeamish set-pieces and general erotic charge make it a great catch for fans of subversive cinema.
