The Handmaiden
AroView: Delicious erotic thriller from the brilliant Park Chan-Wook, who lends his impeccable style to a provocative potboiler of lesbian love and revenge, inspired by THE FINGERSMITH by Welsh writer Sarah Waters.
Set in Japanese-occupied Korea in the 1930’s, an impoverished Korean girl is sent to serve a repressed aristocrat in the estate she lives in with her sadistic uncle. But the plot soon overflows with intertwining schemes, multiple identities and deceits, building to a thrilling climax.
“Just pure cinema, a dizzying, disturbing fable of love and betrayal that piles on luxurious imagery, while never losing track of its story’s human core.” ~David Sims, The Atlantic
