AroView: As the seasons pass through many years, the inhabitants of a floating temple on a woodland pond - a young boy and his wizened mentor - enact the enigmatic Buddhist cycles of experience, turbulence, thought and wisdom.
This festival hit initially seems hard-stretched to convey the sincerity of its religious worldview, yet quietly accomplishes a strange, almost surreal quality of contemplation through its lovely images and commitment to its vision. Though perhaps never quite bending cinema’s qualities to its needs, this remains a wonderfully unique little gem.
