Stress Positions
AroView: A gloriously chaotic and quite memorable New York indie from talented trans-woman podcaster and musician turned film-maker Theda Hammel, who also makes a fine comic performer in support of John Early (Search Party), an actor who has to do very little to be hilarious.
Like his neurotic character, it’s a hot mess of a comedy but in a deliberate and satisfying way, intercut with a narrated backstory that provides an unusual dramatic undertow. It’s definitely a not-for-everyone movie, but if you like the sound of a rainbow-coloured pandemic period piece directed with controlled anarchy, you won’t want to miss it.
“In its wryly amusing self-awareness at all turns, the film actively and relentlessly lampoons the very language and gesturing we all affect in trying to broach the political maelstrom of identity politics.” ~Ryan Lattanzio, IndieWire
“The film is an insightful look at modern discontent and the pandemonium that it breeds.” ~Steven Scaife, Slant Magazine
