[REC]
AroView: Sinister Spanish horror, from European creepy movie maestro Jaume Balaguero, which follows a callout from a Barcelona fire station to an apartment inhabited by undesirable tenants, all captured from the viewpoint of a video camera used by the makers of a late-night TV show.
Considered by some critics as one of the scariest horrors in recent times, this faux-doco is perhaps too hastily executed to fully exploit the potential for viewer tension, though the latter half, in which the atmosphere shifts from bewildered hysteria to out-and-out terror, is eerily effective at instilling a sense of claustrophobic chaos, drawing up to a petrifying BLAIR WITCH-like climax that’s bound to chill more than a few spines.
