Flirting with Disaster
AroView: An off-beat, sophisticated comedy from director David O. Russell that possesses broad audience appeal that (mostly) resists the urge to dumb down.
A road movie driven by the notion of a new father finally wanting to seek out his birth parents, Ben Stiller and Patricia Arquette play the couple in crisis, while old pros Mary Tyler Moore, George Segal, Lily Tomlin are all priceless in support.
It especially hits its stride in the second half once Richard Jenkins and a young Josh Brolin become part of the madcap wider family, finishing with a cleverly plotted third act, that puts a generous hug around all the characters that it has taken the pleasure of skewering.
