Fanny Lye Deliver'd
AroView: A richly layered and evocative British melodrama set on a Shropshire farm in 1657, where Fanny Lye (Maxine Peake) is living a quiet, puritan life until the arrival of a mysterious young couple threatens her disciplined life. Enjoyably weaves elements of folk horror and feminism into one ambitious and beautifully photographed slow burner.
In fact shot in 2015⁄16 but not released until 2019 due to post-production funding problems which led to writer-director Thomas Clay composing the (unusual!) score himself.
“Both amusing and unsettling, this character-driven thriller finds the right mix of camp and conviction while exploring spiritual freedom and sexual liberation in rural 17th century England.” ~ Cinemalogue.
