Day of Wrath
AroView: Carl Dreyer’s brilliant witchcraft drama set in 17th century rural Denmark, where an innocent young woman is denounced following the death of her much older, harshly conservative husband.
Delineated with a slow, claustrophobic immediacy in textured black and white, the wife’s slide towards the torture-chamber becomes hard to watch, but the director’s artistry prevails.
“Beautiful film that feels fresh and modern (story-wise & aesthetically) despite its age. It’s one that has lasted. Terrific performances that have a naturalism to them that is unexpected from this era.” ~Andrea (AroVideo User Review)
