Cria Cuervos
AroView: Considered one of the great classics of Spanish cinema from celebrated director Carlos Saura. The remarkable Ana Torrent (Spirit of the Beehive, 1973) turns in another mesmerizing performance in this haunting, beautifully executed allegory of the legacy of fascism. The title translates to ‘Raise Ravens’.
Eight year-old Ana lives with her two sisters, her father, her aunt, and her paralyzed grandmother. She is an unusual child and is convinced that she holds powers of life and death over those close to her. After the strange death of her father, she sets about calling forth the spirit of her mother who has disappeared. Ana embarks upon a relationship with her in which tenderness and nostalgia sometimes give way to a struggle for power…
