Umami
Gabriel Carvin (Gerard Depardieu), France’s most famous chef, struggles to find happiness in spite of being awarded his third star.
Devoted to his kitchen, he drinks too much, his wife is sleeping with another man, and he has little to no relationship with his two sons. When his best friend attempts hypnosis, he recalls his loss in competition to a Japanese chef (Kyozo Nagatsuka) in 1978 who defeated him with a bowl of noodles. Now this culinary genius must travel to snow-caked Sapporo to discover for himself why his immense skills were surpassed back then.
“Gerard Depardieu shines in a contrived, indulgent, hugely enjoyable drama.” ~Graeme Tuckett, Stuff
