The Origin of Evil
AroView: This French Film Festival hoot is a black comedy thriller about riches, bitches and patriarchal pricks, because when it comes to money all bets are off and all knives come out.
Laure Calamy plays a woman of little means who reaches out to meet her estranged biological father who welcomes her with open arms – and happens to be rolling in it. But things are complicated by her lesbian lover and the ladies of the luxury manse – a shopaholic matriarch, a couple of wild-child daughters and that creepy maid.
“This decadent murder-movie takes the online credo, “be gay, do crimes,” and runs with it — to delicious results.” ~Beatrice Loayza, The New York Times
“It’s a feast for the eye and for the mind, done in a nonchalant way that would make the most seasoned filmmakers jealous.” ~Alex Saveliev, Film Threat
“The Origin of Evil is ultimately Calamy’s show as a calculating and desperate woman seeking love and acceptance in all the wrong places.” ~Ryan Lattanzio, IndieWire
