The Eight Mountains
AroView: The Italian Alps provide a panoramic, immersive setting for this tale of friendship over several decades between two men looking to forge connections after long estrangement from their respective fathers.
Directed by Belgian couple Charlotte Vandermeersch and Felix van Groeningen (The Broken Circle Breakdown, Beautiful Boy), this is similarly emotionally intelligent and resonant, but it’s taken to a higher plain by the breath-taking vistas and the transcendental folk songs of Daniel Norgren. It’s a two-and-a-half hour journey that will put air in your movie-watching lungs, and maybe a lump in your throat.
“A valentine to brotherhood and a shape-shifting tale of self-discovery, resilience, nature and love…” ~Ella Kemp, IndieWire
“Stately and serene from a distance, but up close riven with the fissures and follies of a friendship that costs both men so much but gives them even more, the movie, too, is a mountain.” ~Jessica Kiang, Variety
