The Chills: The Triumph and Tragedy of Martin Phillipps

AroView: An absolutely unflinching portrait of the genius New Zealand songwriter Martin Phillipps whose band The Chills exemplified the “Dunedin Sound” with their catalogue of heavenly pop hits. Seen here at 54, and facing a dire medical prognosis, but with an eccentric, blackly humourous and never-endingly creative spirit that wins through.

“A sad, lovely film, the emotional rush is equivalent to the Dunedin surf washing on to the cold beaches.” ~ Andrew Stafford, The Guardian.
