Stranger by the Lake

AroView: An unnerving, sexually frank thriller set around an idyllic gay cruising spot, where two lovers strike up a heated romance that threatens to turn violent after a suspicious lakeside death.

Much of the focus on the film has centered on its explicit and liberal sex scenes, though as a mastery of the suspense genre, it deserves a different sort of attention. Drawing equally on classical (i.e. Hitchcock) and European (i.e. Haneke) sensibilities, this is a standout ‘queer noir’ to satisfy both adventurous film goers and sharp-eyed film theorists.
