The featurette was recently picked up by MoMA as part of its permanent film collection, with film curator Ron Magliozzi dubbing it a “witty testimony to the durable, liberating spirit of a queer perspective”.

4mGarth Maxwell’s first film was a collaboration with childhood friend and filmmaker Simon Maitland Marler, and was inspired by Kafka’s Metamorphosis. An experiment to create mood through image manipulation, they reshot Super-8 slow-mo, backwards and in freeze frame. Soundtrack by Greg Brice.
