Morgan: A Suitable Case for Treatment

1h 37m Comedy, Drama, Fantasy 1966

AroView: A forgotten but still-gleaming comedy gem from sixties Britain that survives as a compassionate but unsentimental portrait of a man on what we now call the ‘spectrum’.

The gangly and wonderful David Warner stars as the free-spirited Morgan, a failed London artist and idealist, who refuses the reality that his beautiful, wealthy wife (Vanessa Redgrave, in her headlining debut) has divorced him.

With themes of class division and politics, social constraints and modern masculinity that neatly dovetail in a quite magnificent third act, this is a comedy of contradictory impulses that was likely influential and inspiring to talents as significant as Stanley Kubrick, Monty Python, David Bowie and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters.
