Ida
AroView: The ghosts of the Holocaust and Stalinism haunt this masterly portrait of a teenage novitiate nun in 1960s Poland who, on the verge of taking her vows, visits her only surviving family member, a former Communist prosecutor. Though not without levity or romantic tension, this austere drama won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and was the first Polish film to do so.
“Spare, haunting, uncompromising, ‘Ida’ is a film of exceptional artistry whose emotions are as potent and persuasive as its images are indelibly beautiful.” ~LOS ANGELES TIMES
