Cold War
Aroview: The director of ‘Ida’ (2013) follows up with a deeply romantic, immaculately composed tale of a Polish concert pianist and a charismatic singer who fall in love but who ultimately find themselves stranded on either side of the Iron Curtain.
Inspired by the lives of the director’s own parents, it uses virtuosic black-and-white cinematography and an extraordinary soundtrack to signify the passage of time and shifting relationships through fifteen years across Warsaw, Berlin, Paris and Yugoslavia.
“A passionate love story between two people of different backgrounds and temperaments, who are fatally mismatched and yet condemned to each other. Set against the background of the Cold War in the 1950s in Poland, Berlin, Yugoslavia and Paris, the film depicts an impossible love story in impossible times” ~ The Hollywood Reporter.
