Solemn hitman Forest Whitaker follows an ancient samurai code, dealing with the Mafia by carrier-pigeon and executing his assignments to the spooky hip-hop music of RZA. Whitaker’s deadpan dignity in the face of all challenges is both comical and, by the close, oddly affecting.
