Fantail

1h 21m Drama 2013

This debut feature by writer-director partners Sophie Henderson and Curtis Vowell (Baby Done, Workmates) adapted from Henderson’s one-woman stage-play about a woman caught between two cultures.

She plays Tania, who is blonde and blue-eyed but regards herself as Māori. Her boss at the gas station where she works looks Māori, but has been thoroughly ‘pakeha’d’, something Tania takes great glee in hassling him about. Desperate to take her little brother Piwakawaka (Fantail) to visit their father in Australia, Tania works the nightshift.

“A small yet surprising, poignant and perceptive slice of downbeat New Zealand life.” ~ArtsHub
