AroView: The journey northward of a Guatemalan brother and sister (Zaide Silvia Gutierrez and David Villalpando) on the run is an epic saga of the modern world, as they traverse Central America from the Mayan highlands to modern day Los Angeles.
Made independently, this Oscar-nominated work caused a stir on its release due to its outsider perspective told through the eyes of migrant labour, and equally for its stylised, ‘magic realist’ imagery.
The film has been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
