Aroview: Dir. Mel Gibson’s oft-enthralling action adventure follows a young tribesman living in a jungle village who is taken prisoner by Mayan warriors, on the hunt for fresh slaves and fresh sacrifices.
Gibson’s follow-up to THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST is part tense, near-dialogueless manhunt through the forest, part fly-on-the-wall journey into the likely brutality of the Mayan empire. Though not for the squeamish, this stylish action-adventure thankfully feels far less torturous than the director’s last.
