Mature and distinctive drama exploring contemporary Iranian experiences through the decision of a struggling journalist to give away a large amount of money on May 9th.
The man’s advertisement in the local Tehran newspaper has encouraged people to come to his office and make a convincing appeal. But difficult moral questions arise as to how he, and the police, will deal with the throngs of needy candidates and decide who’s actually the most worthy. A complex, multi-strand story emerges, reflecting the humanism characteristic of modern Iranian cinema.
“The film is so effective on a basic emotional level that the number of international awards it has received comes as no surprise.” ~ David Stratton, The Australian.
