AroView: A critically under-rated drama that comes highly recommended to admirers of either Stephen Fry or Lena Dunham.
Both actors connect to their Jewish heritage in a story of a father and daughter who make a return visit to their evacuated Polish homeland in 1991. These guys are just too good not to inhabit their characters (Fry mastering the Polish tongue), and their respective trauma is deeply felt in spite of their irrepressible instincts for comedy. Poland itself plays a tragicomic character as well, a distinctive setting for what is also a universal drama about an awkward father and daughter who finally find the time to understand one another.
“Fry and Dunham endow their scenes with a brick-by-brick specificity that brings their characters to life.” ~David Ehrlich, IndieWire
“At times, it plays more like a sitcom than a story about the legacy of the death camps. Thankfully, it still provides probing insight into everything from casual anti-semitism to the plague of historical forgetfulness.” ~Geoffrey Macnab, The Independent
