To Chiara
AroView: A rites-of-passage drama in the Italian neo-realist tradition that examines the impact of Mafia activity on those in the close family circle, and in particular a fifteen-year-old girl called Chiara. Using a real-life family of non-professional actors, this takes pains to build a vividly subjective portrait of a young woman desperate to leap from the precipice of naivety into the enlightened but cynical world of adulthood. (aka A Chiara)
“You feel the weight of Chiara’s dilemma, the cost of the knowledge she demands, and the heroism of her willingness to pay it.” ~A.O. Scott, The New York Times
“For all its social-realist tendencies, To Chiara is told in a wonderfully fluid and poetic fashion.” ~Ed Frankl, The Film Stage
