The People Upstairs
AroView: An inspired Spanish sex comedy adapted from director Cesc Gay’s own stage play that has since been remade in several languages, including “The Invite” (2026).
Resonating strongly with middle-class, middle-aged anxiety about sex and status, this is where the hilarious ideas originated, diverging mostly in the third act for an equally poignant resolution. Recommended to play ‘spot the difference’ or just to be enjoyed on its own merits, alongside the writer-director’s Goya-winning previous feature, “Truman” (2015).
“A smart, genuinely funny and tightly written comedy of - very bad - manners.” ~ Graeme Tuckett, Stuff.
