In August 1914, as World War I erupts, the quiet life of a Belgian village is torn apart. Leonard Lambert, a local farmer, is compelled to lead a group of villagers, including his injured daughter Johanna, on a perilous journey to the French border, seeking refuge from the war’s escalating violence.
Their quest for safety is thwarted by a relentless German lieutenant, Laurentz, who is driven by a personal vendetta against Leonard. As they navigate the treacherous forests, Leonard and the villagers are tested by the harsh realities of war.
“Its straightforward, sometimes brutal progress and assured craftsmanship will more than satisfy audiences looking for something other than simple combat spectacle.” ~Dennis Harvey, Variety
