The Killer Inside Me
AroView: Casey Affleck disturbs as a psychotic small-town sheriff struggling to cover his bloody tracks in this grim, stylish neo-noir.
Directed by the ever-versatile Michael Winterbottom, the film strives to capture the unseemliness of back-country life while playing up the expected double-crosses and best laid plans of classic film noir. Embracing a nihilistic streak that cleverly subverts the movie’s outwardly commercial appearance, this adaptation remains faithful to the chilling 1952 Jim Thompson novel, a sort of ‘American Psycho’ for its time.
