Spit
A twenety-years-later sequel to crime-comedy Gettin’ Square (2003) in which David Wenham reprises his role as Johnny ‘Spit’ Spitieri, who this time finds himself locked up in an immigration detention centre upon his return to Australia.
With old enemies on his tail and a target on his back, he navigates a series of comedic misadventures, sharing with his fellow detainees the meaning of mateship and what it is to be truly Australian.
”(Director) Tepltizky peppers enough of the movie with background from Gettin’ Square from 2003 to allow audiences to be in on the action and also the jokes.” ~Darren Bevan, Darren’s World of Movies
“The gags might be a tad silly and the storytelling slightly contrived, but it’s hard to resist the charm of hapless scoundrel Johnny ‘Spit’ Spitieri.” ~Luke Buckmaster, The Guardian
“The film’s commentary stands as a quiet challenge to static views of justice and identity…” ~Naser Nahandian, Gazettely
