Silent Heart

AroView: A Danish drama set around a family Christmas gathering brought forward because the family matriarch has an appointment that cannot wait.

Suffering a terminal illness, she has decided to end things on her terms, except that both of her adult daughters are having second thoughts about the decision that brings up old resentments and new suspicions. It’s a melancholy but far from miserable drama, immaculately acted and staged by Bille August (Pelle The Conqueror), with Pilou Asbaek (Borgen) providing some levity as a stoner boyfriend who has embarrassingly tagged along.

The film was remade in the US as “Blackbird” (2019), which is also available.

“Brought to life by a cast alert to every dramatic nuance, the script of Silent Heart skewers and sympathizes with each of its characters.” ~The Hollywood Reporter
