Quintessentially British

1h 36m Documentary 2022

A love letter to all things great and British that reveals some surprising facts about Britishness. It has a distinguished British cast including some famous Knights, a Duke, a Countess, an irrepressible Dame and eccentric Lords.

Interviewees include Lady Carnarvon (of Highclere Castle), Sir Lindsay Hoyle (The Speaker of the House of Commons) and actors Ian McKellen and Judi Dench. The film features exclusive access to Highclere Castle (home of Downton Abbey), the University of Cambridge, Blenheim Palace (birthplace of Winston Churchill), the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and the House of Lords with the quirky Lord Palmer (who lives in a beautiful 109 room mansion, although he says that it has 100 rooms too many!) It captures the glorious history and proud traditions of British craftsmanship including classic car-making, Savile Row tailoring and Launer London (the famous handbag used by the Queen as a secret signal to her staff - if she crossed her handbag from one hand to the other, it was a covert sign to rescue her).

Written and directed by Frank Mannion, it is intended as a valentine to all that is great and British in the year of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the new reign of King Charles III.
