Pacific Mother

1h 28m Documentary 2023

Exclusive to AroVision, this breath-takingly beautiful documentary shares the birth stories of four women who are intimately connected to the ocean.

It’s a personal journey taken by Japanese actress and free-diver Sachiko Fukumoto, who finds fellow travellers in the lush landscapes of Hawai’i, Tahiti, the Cook Islands and Aotearoa, home of her champion free-diver husband, William Trubridge. The film is itself an immersive and positive experience, with director and NZ theatre veteran Kathy McRae presenting a supportive yet clear-eyed view of her subjects’ desire to give birth in the way that feels right to them.

Winner of 4 Doc Edge NZ awards (2023): Best Documentary, Best Director, Best Editor and Best Cinematography.
