Oranges and Sunshine
AroView: Dir. Jim Loach (son of Ken) tackles the scandalous post-war history of Britain’s deportation of lower-class children to the colonies - most notably Australia - with a firm, unsentimental hand in this powerful drama. Based on the real-life story of Margaret Humphreys, impeccably played by Emily Watson.
“A deeply moving study of emotionally scarred adults who were illegally deported as children to Australia from Britain in the 1940s and ‘50s.” ~Variety
