Nowhere Boy
AroView: A likeable portrait of John Lennon’s pre-Beatles youth in 1950’s Liverpool and his emotional tug-of-war with the two maternal figures who shaped his life.
Conceptual artist and photographer Sam Taylor-Wood makes her directorial debut here, and does a fine enough job though her artistic expression is kept within the confines of the script. Holds fascination to see Lennon’s formative years as a musician, but the otherwise familiar story and format is distinguished mainly by exploring the thwarted family dynamics that were a product of the conservative times.
