Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie

AroView: Nothing to do with the 90s grunge superstars of the same name (spelled with double ‘n’s or otherwise), this is instead the quite brilliant, hysterical mischief of Canadian comedy duo Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol who star in their own epic showbiz time-travelling buddy comedy.

It’s a feature film spun out of their original web series (and later TV series) which allows the pair to literally travel back to visit their younger selves, and from there they spin a clever narrative about what fate might have had in store had they only played that coveted gig at the ‘Rivoli’, a recurring theme of the show.

It’s DIY film-making as innovative as Johnson’s ‘Operation Avalanche’ from a decade earlier, and more memorable than his decent biopic about the fate of the BlackBerry phone. Gather ‘round your mates, and strap on for a wild, hysterical ride. Just don’t ask us to explain the name.
