Mistaken for Strangers

1h 15m Documentary, Music 2013

AroView: Distinctive among rock-docs, this was made by the underachieving, metal-head brother of indie-rockers The National’s front-man, Matt Berninger, who is hired as a roadie and charged with filming the band’s successful world tour.

Part band profile, part bro-mance, part personal therapy exercise, the latter may be seen as self-indulgence but the film is revealing in unexpected ways and follows a lovably flawed character that is central to enjoying any kind of cinematic journey, fictional or otherwise. And whether you’re partial to The National’s music or not, it provides surprisingly relatable insight into the anxiety of being a rock star’s sibling.

“Painfully funny and rather moving, as well. Seems destined for cult status.” ~SBS
