Mauri
Set among the colourful characters of the once thriving settlement of Te Mata, Mauri tells the story of a love triangle while exploring themes of cultural tension and identity. It is also a portrait of a dying East Coast town where European settlement spells disaster. Isolated by lack of numbers, time and distance, the people who remain in town form an impenetrable, tight-knit community.
When Rewi’s deceit forces him to join that community, he finds his life inextricably interwoven with those around him.
