Little Malcolm (and His Struggle Against the Eunuchs)

1h 51m • Drama, Comedy, Satire • 1974

AroView: John Hurt gives a towering performance as Malcolm Scrawdyke, a fascist political figure who plots revenge against the art college that expelled him by forming a right-wing political movement with three acolytes.

Brilliantly acted all round, and strikingly shot by cinematographer John Alcott (Barry Lyndon), the production was entirely funded by George Harrison, who was a huge fan of the David Halliwell’s 1965 stageplay that was noted for its eloquently powerful monologues and lashings of black humour.

The film is hilarious until it isn’t, and holds up more than fifty years after it was a made as a chilling reflection of current political despots and the internet-enabled subculture known as the ‘manosphere’.
