L'Eclisse
Aroview: The final part in the Italian trilogy begun by L’AVVENTURA, set during a stock-market crash in Rome, this finds Monica Vitti disengaging from Francisco Rabal and hooking-up with racy broker Alain Delon.
As usual with dir. Antonioni, this journey through the careless, even meaningless existence of the modern world finds expression in an immaculate visual surface that invests landscape, people and objects with a surreal and alienating quality. Slow-moving, but worth persisting with for the final 5-minute montage.
