AroView: Cult photographer Larry Clark’s feature film debut, scripted by Harmony Korine (Gummo) attracted immediate controversy for its unblinking depictions of sex, drugs and petty crime following a group of New York teenagers over a frenetic twenty-four hours.
By turns insightful and gratuitous, this was likely to divide any audience, and though the ‘cinema verite’ stylings conceal an exploitative tendency this ultimately remains serious-minded and essential viewing.
