Dream Scenario

1h 42m Comedy, Fantasy, Cult 2023

AroView: Nicolas Cage plays a hapless family man and professor who becomes an unwitting celebrity when he starts appearing in the dreams of the general public.

A playful mind-bender that comments on the very fan base that this is sure to please, it’s also an on-brand A24 movie, the taste-making studio behind Everything Everywhere All At Once, and the films of Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar, Beau is Afraid) who was once attached to direct it. But its darkly comic conceit is closer and more openly inspired by Charlie Kaufman, whose screenplay for Adaptation also starred Cage over twenty years ago.

“Is this a fantasy? A fable? A new kind of horror movie? Actually, Dream Scenario is all of the above and then some, for it also shares a certain postmodern DNA with two of Cage’s most boundary-pushing movies, “Adaptation” and “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.” ~Peter Debruge, Variety

“This is an ambitious, often provocative interrogation of masculinity, cancel culture, social media, and the power of celebrity through a humorous lens.” ~Screen Daily
