AroView: Joseph Gordon-Levitt wrote, directs and stars in this distinctly masculine rom-com as a New Jersey ‘player’ who must confront his nagging addiction to porn if he is to forge meaningful relationships with women (Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore).

In spite of being lighter and more palatable than sex-addiction drama SHAME, this is in many ways a braver, more honest film about the pervasiveness of pornography, and its frankness all the more remarkable coming from a bona fide Hollywood star in his directing debut. Gordon-Levitt proves confident in all three creative roles he takes on here, even if his reach ultimately exceeds his grasp for genuinely earned pathos in the final reel.
