AroView: The directorial debut of actor Chelsea Preston Crayford, daughter Gaylene Preston, whose own first feature film, Mr. Wrong, announced her as a trailblazing female film-maker exactly 40 years ago.
Loosely based on Crayford’s own teenagehood in a Wellington household with a movie-making solo mum and a grandmother slowly succumbing to dementia, the three generations of women are played by Lisa Harrow, Marta Dusseldorp and Anais Shand. It’s a touchingly personal paean to mothers and daughters, and to creative women trying to juggle it all, while the central metaphor of the title is about finding your wings and flying, which is exactly what Chelsea does here.
