Carmine Street Guitars

1h 20m Documentary, Music 2019

An absorbing documentary portraying a week in the life of Rick Kelly, guitar maker at fabled Greenwich Village guitar store Carmine Street Guitars.

Having built guitars for 40 years, Kelly opens up about his art and philosophies, along with stories which provide a treasure trove of local history. Over the week he is visited by reverential customers including Bill Frisell, Eleanor Friedberger, Marc Ribot, Nels Cline and Jim Jarmusch, who provide improptu performances to demonstrate Kelly’s incredible work. A paen to the work of an old school artisan.

“A delight for six-string gearheads and a reverie for those who still treasure what remains of pre-Bloomberg, pre-Giuliani New York.” ~ John DeFore, Hollywood Reporter.
