AroView: A striking Chinese film set in a deserted town on the edge of the Gobi desert that seems to be hanging on to the last vestiges of human culture while dogs run amok on eve of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
This deadpan comedy is full of grandly composed images, with a Pink Floyd-loving ex-stuntman/ex-con protagonist that says little more than the stray greyhound he eventually captures – a fellow traveler that seems similarly misunderstood. It’s an arthouse petrol-head movie that transports you to a world not usually on the cinematic map.
