Becoming Traviata

1h 53m Documentary 2012

A rare glimpse into the creative process of an opera company as they work to produce a contemporary re-telling of one of the world’s greatest operas at the prestigious Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in France.

The film focuses on coloratura soprano Natalie Dessay’s preparations to take on the challenging role of Violetta, and she lets the cameras in without a hint of vanity, explaining and demonstrating vocal techniques with a degree of detail that will delight opera geeks.

“Zeroing in on the art of rehearsal, Becoming Traviata is an exquisitely observed look at performance and the creative process.” ~ Sheri Linden, Los Angeles Times.
